ABB has unveiled a generative AI-powered solution, Genix Copilot, aimed at transforming industrial operations by delivering real-time, actionable insights. Developed in collaboration with Microsoft and leveraging Azure OpenAI Service, the system integrates generative AI capabilities with industrial data to improve productivity, efficiency, and sustainability across sectors such as energy and utilities.
Harnessing large language models like GPT-4, Genix Copilot processes data from diverse sources, including shop-floor operations, enterprise systems, and unstructured metadata. The platform’s intuitive interface allows users to interact via natural language, enabling tailored insights into asset health, performance metrics, and operational troubleshooting. The system’s predictive capabilities help organisations reduce downtime, optimise energy use, and cut emissions.
Peter Terwiesch, President of ABB Process Automation, emphasised the transformative potential of AI in industry: “With Genix Copilot, we are ushering in a new era of actionable insights. This collaboration with Microsoft enables faster, data-driven decisions that support greater productivity, efficiency, and sustainability.”
The system offers a role-based user experience, catering to diverse functions within an organisation, from executives analysing strategic performance to engineers addressing operational challenges. Its design also facilitates knowledge-sharing and collaborative decision-making, ensuring data security and privacy are prioritised.
Three use cases highlight the solution’s potential. The Asset Performance Management module uses predictive analytics to enhance maintenance efficiency and minimise equipment downtime. My Measurement Assistant streamlines device troubleshooting, providing swift access to technical documentation and spare part information. Meanwhile, Sustainability Insights focuses on energy management and emissions monitoring, helping organisations align with environmental goals.
“Genix Copilot demonstrates how generative AI can revolutionise industrial operations, offering an accessible tool to drive efficiency and sustainability,” Sonja Meindl, Enterprise Commercial Director at Microsoft Switzerland, said. Early adoption across industries signals growing interest in AI-driven tools that bridge the gap between complex industrial data and actionable strategies. ABB’s development reflects a broader trend towards integrating AI with operational systems, aiming to future-proof industries against growing sustainability pressures and market demands.
